What are the Three Main Types of Scaffolding Solutions? Scaffolding

Working above ground on a building project requires scaffolding solutions, as without them, it would not only be impractical but also extremely dangerous to complete a build. The construction of the scaffolding that needs to be used is completely dependent on the project that is being undertaken. Despite the many types of scaffolding solutions on offer, there are only three main categories: suspended, supported, and mobile. Before going ahead with your build or building repairs, you need to be armed with more information.

Supported Scaffolding Solutions

As the name suggests, these scaffolding solutions are built from the ground up, which means that the floor is the main support. This is usually used in large construction projects where the building is quite high. It is formed from one or more platforms which are supported by rigid struts (poles, legs, or frames). Ladders are used to climb up to the level or even used as part of the middle connection (or platforms) between them.

Ringlock Scaffolding System

Normally, these frames are stationary but can be freestanding and mobile, dependent on the type of build being done. Besides being used in new builds, this is also used in restoration and repairs on old buildings where stone masonry is used.

Suspended Scaffolding Solutions

This is a working platform that hangs from the roof through wiring, chains, or ropes. It involves the use of pulleys, levers, and switches which allow you to ascend or descend down the side of a building, thereby providing access to those normally unreachable parts. Whether choosing two-point or swing-stage types, it is suspended by two sets of cables or ropes from an overhead structure which then attaches to stirrups on either side of the platform.

As the number of workers on the platform at a given time is restricted, this is commonly used for smaller construction projects like painting or repairing sides of buildings and for extremely high building where a supported scaffold is not feasible.

Mobile Scaffolding Solutions

This type is free standing and built on castors for mobility. It is built up in a similar way to supported scaffolding and is ideal for large sites, especially those with multiple projects where constant dismantling is impractical. The biggest risk factor for this is that it could be potentially hazardous if the castors are not locked in place correctly.

Due to the mobility of this type of scaffold, it is mostly used for painting and plastering as workers need to change their position frequently.
